There’s a few things about Sydney town that you should know about.
First up, Fraser Studios is no more! On Saturday I attended their closing bash, which despite the sad circumstances was a jovial affair, featuring some awesome psycho-billy bush punk band, Christa Hughes and a mobile Jaffle Jafe. I indulged in a tasty Quiche Urban, the perfect after dinner snackeroonie. All in all it was great event and a fitting celebration of all the fantastic activities that have happened at Fraser Studios during its operation. For me the most memorable have been participating in Underbelly Festival 2010, where Umbrella Theatre was born, undertaking an artist residency in 2011 with Aesha Henderson, and attending dancehall classes with the bootylicious Caroline Garcia.
As if this wasn’t enough fun for one weekend I also attended Hamlet at the Seymour Centre by the up and coming Sport For Jove. This fantastic company are building a strong audience fast with clever, relevant and fun Shakespeare. This was one of the best works of Hamlet I’ve ever seen and clearly other people think so too – with a meaty run and full audiences as testimony.

And finally there’s still a week left to see the Unspeakable Itch, a hilarious play on at Darlinghurst Theatre. It is a rare delight when you find absurdist clowning masquerading under the guise of theatre, but an absolute delight. I was giggling far too loudly through out at the bizarre and silly places that this show went to. If you think your brain can handle it, grab your Balinese beads and new tie and contemplate the greatness of building a deck at your house.
