We got a few nice little mentions around the place recently. A great little summary of our recent adventures appeared in the latest Oz Puppetry Email Newsletter, alongside a lot of puppetry related activities in Sydney and beyond. A lovely piccie and write up from A Sydney Summer about Umbrella Theatre at the Rocks. And also a few great mentions …
Nude Dining and Dancing at Peat’s Ridge Festival
We’re reaching the end of January 2013 and after being back at work for a few weeks it already feels like and age away! However, please permit me to cast my mind back to a most memorable New Year’s! Old Mate was not the only Thunderkat creation to make an appearance at Peat’s Ridge Festival. I was also coerced (through …
Sydney Festival Reviews
Inside Last night I saw Frank Woodley’s new show Inside at the Spiegeltent, and is a work of genius! It was such a marvelous mixture of humour, absurdity and character. We cackled the whole way through, but there’s also a weird existential underlying twist, as the Russian prisoners contemplate the outside world without knowledge of it or a chance of …
SMAC & MOFO
A few exciting and let’s face it, tragically hip things going on this weekend! Last night was the Sydney Art Music & Culture awards, hosted by FBi at Carriageworks. I am so proud that our 2012 Sydney Fringe Festival project, Mystery Bus was nominated for an award. Its a great recognition of the hard work that we put into the …
City Lights: Sydney Meets Japan
Last night I attended the launch of an exciting project called City Lights. Using technology and creativity, Sydney and Yokohama, Japan will be connected innovatively. An ensemble of young people underwent a creative development with multimedia artist David Kirkpatrick and Japanese dancer/designer Anna Kuroda. The results have led to an installation which appears in the Cleland Bond building, the Rocks, …
Murder in Sydney Festival
Sydney Festival have just released this thought provoking and intriguing vivisection of Murder. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4phyoRIDzs] I enjoyed every moment – a highly recommended insight into puppetry, death and the human condition. The creative team are incredibly talent and the whole production has been brought together masterfully. Having watched this project grow from its inception as a 5 minute development in 2008, …
Murder and Puppets in Sydney Festival
Murder. Its an evocative concept, and not for the faint hearted. A moving and visually stunning exploration, inspired by Nick Cave’s legendary Murder Ballads album, Murder is the hottest show of Sydney Festival 2013. Way back in 2008, I was involved in the very first creative development of Murder, at Carriageworks for Underbelly Festival. We then performed a remount at …
Old Mate takes on Peats Ridge Festival
Happy New Year! And what a New Year celebration it was! The beautiful Natalia and I took Old Mate on an Umbrella Theatre outing to Peats Ridge Festival for some fun and frivolity roving the site on the Saturday and Sunday. We even got a (somewhat nonfactual) mention in Time Out magazine in the lead up! The sun was beating …

Dog shrine in Brooklyn, New York
We were searching Brooklyn’s backstreets for espresso coffee and were directed down towards the desolate waterline. As we walked through the puddles we happened upon an odd shrine. To a long departed, much loved pet? And this strange tribute to a banana, accompanying it off to the side. Later defiled by someone crass, no doubt.
